Major League Baseball GM Meetings Winding Down Without Much Action

The GM meetings are coming to a close and the baseball off season has gotten off to a slow start as, besides a few rumors of who is available to be traded, not much happened this week.

Alex Rodriguez is the big story of this off season and his agent Scott Boras did have a few meetings with GMs during the week, but these were just preliminary cordial talks before the real negotiations begin.

The Mets, Angels, Red Sox, and Dodgers all listened to what Boras had to say during the week, but it is unlikely any of these teams will move quickly in trying to sign Rodriguez.

Miguel Cabrera was a hot topic this week as there was speculation that he might be available in a trade, but nothing more than conversations took place on this front.

It is likely that the trade talks will heat up in a few weeks, as next week is the first time that teams can make offers to potential free agents, and once a few of these free agents sign, teams will have a better grasp on what their areas of need are.

Jorge Posada is one of the few top free agents that are out there and the chances are that he is staying in New York. Which New York team he will play for is uncertain as both the Yankees and the Mets are pursuing him strongly.

The winter meetings will be the next time all the GMs will be together as they will be held in December, and much more should come out of those meetings than the ones that took place this week.…

A few weeks ago this match up between Texas and Oklahoma looked as if it would be one of the top games of the year, now after both teams took upset defeats, the teams are just trying to stay in the national picture.

Coming into the season both teams had national title hopes, but after both taking disappointing losses, they square off with the loser being knocked out of the national race.

Oklahoma had looked superb in starting the season undefeated, there was talk that the Sooners were one of the top three teams in the nation, joining USC and LSU, but after a stunning upset loss at Colorado, the Sooners will be trying to regain their form in Texas.

The Longhorns are in basically the same position as the Sooners in that they also started the season strong before being upset and dropping in the rankings.

The winner of this game will vault back into the national picture and begin looking toward the national title again, but for the loser, although they will not be out of the Big Twelve race, they certainly will be out of the running for the national crown.

Oklahoma is ranked #10 and Texas is ranked #19, Game time is set for 3:30 and the game will be shown nationally on ABC.

Rutgers is a team that knows plenty about what the South Florida Bulls are going through this season, because the Bulls are mirroring last years Scarlet Knights team.

South Florida has started this season undefeated and because of all the upsets so far, they have climbed all the way to #2 in the BCS standings, but to stay there, they must win in a hostile environment tonight in New Jersey.

Rutgers had their dreams of a national title dashed last year with a couple of late season losses, now they are looking to play spoiler to the Bulls and get themselves back into the Big East title race.

The Bulls are the best team in Florida, and that is a huge compliment in a state where Florida, Florida State, and Miami all have national titles to their credit.

South Florida also knows that since this is their first run at national prominence, that they must continue to impress and cannot afford to slip up, not even once.

Last week, they destroyed what was thought to be a decent football team in Central Florida, and now they will be playing in front of a national television audience in prime time against a very dangerous Scarlet Knights team.

This will be the first test for South Florida since upsetting Auburn early in the year, and a win should keep the Bulls at #2 for at least one more week.

ESPN will have coverage of the game starting at 7:30 tonight.…
